How to Make Money Online: The Ultimate Guide for 2018 (and Beyond)

How to Make Money Online

There is a lot of information out there right now on how to make money online. And I mean a lot.

Most of it should be put into a box and shot up into space because it's not helpful to anyone in our planet.

But no worries, we're about to change that.

In this giant of a guide, I'm gonna show you the money-making methods that actually work.

That's not all...

I'm gonna show you how to actually do them, along with their difficulty level and time to implement.

So are you ready to get started?

How to ACTUALLY Make Money Online

To actually earn that legitimate dollar, you'll have to do something for it. There's no such thing as a machine that magically makes money from the internet. The only way I see that happening is if that "magic machine" stole funds from credit cards and bank accounts. Hacks, I guess.

But that's not what we're about here. We don't do that illegal bullshit around here.

Here at, we only show you the best ways to make money online. Ways that involve people buying from people. Ways that involve people paying people. You know...the legit stuff.

And, it doesn't even matter how old you are. You can be a teenager working on college tuition, a senior looking for something exciting, or just normal guy trying to support his family.

Making money online is for everybody.

So with that, let's jump into the first method on this list.

1. Earn "Full-Time Income" With Blogging

Difficulty: 7/10

Effectiveness: 9/10

Time: 3-12+ months

Blogging is one of the best ways to make money online. And that's why we've featured it on this list as our #1.

What is "blogging"? you ask. Well, it's kind of what we're doing right now at Basically, we created a blog, created some kickass content like this, and earn through more than one way.

With this money-making method, you'll have a few ways to earn. The 2 usual methods are affiliate marketing and offering your own digital products (like ebooks).

How to Get Started

  • Start a blog.
  • Create high-quality content.
  • Get some traffic.
  • Build your mailing list.
  • Create your own digital product and/or get into affiliate marketing.

2. Make Extra Cash, Sell Your Unwanted Stuff

Difficulty: 2/10

Effectiveness: 8/10

Time: 0-1+ weeks

You'd be surprised at what "junk" you've got laying around that could put some extra cash in your pocket. You've heard the saying...One man's trash is another man's treasure.

How do you do it?

Basically, you start digging around your house and garage, find something of value, log onto a site like eBay, and post your item for sale.

The toughest part will probably be the digging around. Or, if you're "computerly-challenged", then posting your item for sale might be a bit challenging.

How to Get Started

Making money by selling your unwanted stuff goes like this:

  • Dig around your house, storage, and garage.
  • Find something someone would find valuable.
  • Pick one of the sites that let's you post ads. Examples: Craigslist, eBay, Kijiji.
  • Post your item for sale (with pictures and a description).
  • Make the sale/transaction.

3. Earn Passive Income With a Niche Site Army

Difficulty: 8/10

Effectiveness: 10/10

Time: 3-12+ months

A niche site is typically one that is laser-focused on a profitable market.

For example, custom gaming controllers. You can even go further by focusing on a particular console, like Xbox One or PS4.

Most niche sites are monetized with affiliate marketing. Which means they promote and sell other people's products.

As an example, let's go back to the custom controllers...

I have a website called ControllerPro. Basically, we review and roundup the best controller shops and their controllers. We make money by recommending Evil Controllers (and their products), one of the leaders in the area.

I also have other niche sites doing the same thing.

It's a lot of work. Especially if you're doing it alone. But it's worth it.

Pro Tip: Hire someone if you can. Virtual assistants are great workers.

How to Get Started

  • Pick a niche (along with at least one affiliate offer).
  • Build the website.
  • Setup the basic SEO.
  • Setup your lead generation (list building).
  • Create SEO-friendly content (including product reviews, comparisons, roundups, etc).
  • Build high-quality backlinks.
  • Make money. Rinse and repeat.

4.  Start Earning in Days With Freelance Writing

Difficulty: 7/10

Effectiveness: 10/10

Time: 0-6 months

Freelance writing has been one of the best ways to earn steady online income for the past dozen years. And it probably always will be.

Why? People need fresh, high-quality content.

Companies, bloggers, marketers, and agencies all use web content in their businesses. It's how they drive traffic, generate leads, land clients, and make money.

Most, however, need help. And that's where freelance writers come in. You.

You can start by looking for jobs yourself. Build up your portfolio.

How to Get Started

  • Find writing gigs by searching through job boards. Start with ProBlogger Jobs.
  • Apply/pitch to those that interest you.
  • Get hired and make money.

When your portfolio starts to grow, you can offer your writing services by creating a website.

5. Go With What You Know and Create Online Courses

Difficulty: 8/10

Effectiveness: 10/10

Time: 1-6+ months

Selling online courses are a very lucrative moneymaking opportunity right now, and have been for the past couple years.. Sites like Udemy and Teachable have been thriving.

It's just like what Joker says in The Dark Knight, "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

So if you are, in fact, good at something, there are likely thousands of people out there that would pay you to teach them.

How to Get Started

  • Pick something you're good at.
  • Pick one of the online teaching platforms.
  • Create your training.
  • Promote it to everyone you can.

6. Love to Work? Become a Virtual Assistant (VA)

Difficulty: 7/10

Effectiveness: 8/10

Time: 1+ weeks

Virtual assistants are one of the hardest working people ever. They do whatever is asked, so they do a lot.

It can be anything from blog post editing/writing, managing social media accounts, setting up email autoresponders, booking appointments, replying to emails, or even turning blog posts into other content types (videos, infographics, slides). Basically anything.

So if you're one of those people who loves to work and stay busy, doing VA stuff could be for you.

How to Get Started

  • Start by applying for VA jobs posted on sites like Upwork, Freelancer, etc.
  • When you build up a nice portfolio, consider creating a website where you show off your work and offer your VA services.

7. Try Your Luck With Online Poker (Yup!)

Difficulty: 5/10

Effectiveness: 5/10

Time: 1+ days

Online poker. I fucking love it. Texas Hold'em is my game. I even play live tournaments at least once a week. (Note to self: start a poker blog.)

Poker, however, isn't you're typical online moneymaking method.

Usually, making money online involves some form of marketing, content creation, or a rewards-style membership (like surveys).

Poker requires a lot of luck, though. Even the most skilled players in the world need some to win. That's why you typically see a lot of amateurs sitting at the final tables of big events like the WPT or WSOP.

If you haven't played before, there's something every poker player knows about called beginner's luck. Maybe you'll have some.

How to Get Started

  • Learn the basics of Texas Hold'em Poker. (here's a great guide)
  • Download a legitimate poker app. I recommend PokerStars. It's great.
  • Make your first deposit. PokerStars has many options. No PayPal or pre-paid cards, though.
  • Grab a seat. There are hundreds of cash games and thousands of tournaments to choose from. I'd recommend starting with a Sit'n'Go.
  • And WIN. (Hopefully!)

8. Get Monthly Recurring Payments With a Membership Program

Difficulty: 5/10

Effectiveness: 4/10

Time: 0-3+ months

Memberships are big moneymakers. Even with just 50 members, you can earn a decent monthly income. 50 times $20 for example, is $1000 per month. That's not bad.

A great example of a membership program would be Wealthy Affiliate. I've been a member of this since July 2014 (it's where I learned how to build websites). That's almost 3 years.

36 months multiplied by the monthly price, which is $49, comes up to $1764.

And they have thousands of members. Close to a million in total. (Most are inactive, though.)

Let's say they have at least 50,000 paying members. That's $2.45M per month. That's crazy.

What if you create something like this? It's possible. 100%. But it's totally up to you.

How to Get Started

  • Figure out what you're going to offer in your membership.
  • Create it.
  • Build the website.
  • Set up a membership subscription plan.
  • Connect it to PayPal, Stripe, or something similar.
  • Get new members.

It'll be a lot of work. There's a lot that goes into it. I'd recommend using Memberful. It's free to start.

9. Pocket Some Change With "Get Paid To" Websites

Difficulty: 3/10

Effectiveness: 3/10

Time: 0-1+ months

Be careful with GPT (Get Paid To) sites. There are some that are fake and scammy.

But there are a few good ones. We've reviewed some of them on here in the past. NeoBux, CashCrate, and InboxDollars to name a few.

How do they work?

Mostly, you'll do things like complete surveys, fill out offers (i.e, take free trials, install apps, etc), and share stuff on social media. Some sites ask you do to other things. But these are the usuals.

And they pay anywhere from $0.01 to $2 per task. Rarely any higher. But you could make about $50 to $100 per site every month.

How to Get Started

  • Find a GPT site you like.
  • Complete whatever tasks they ask you to do.
  • Earn some money.
  • Rinse and repeat.

10. Sell Weird Services and Get Paid $5 at a Time on Fiverr

Difficulty: 7/10

Effectiveness: 7/10

Time: 0-1+ months

Fiverr has been around for a while.

What is it? you ask. Basically, it's a freelance job site.

It's an online marketplace where people offer services and tasks that start at $5. Some services are unique and weird. Some are more everyday, like logo design and content creation.

Last year, I created a service where I did $5 testimonials for people. I did 6 within the first couple days. Not bad for something that takes 10 minutes to do.

Fiverr's got this new thing they put out a while ago where you can price your own services. That means you can make more than $5 per gig.

How to Get Started

  • Create a free Fiverr account.
  • Figure out what you're going to offer. Relationship advice, graphic design, voiceovers, content creation, or basically anything you want.
  • Create your Fiverr gig. It's easy. They've also got tutorials for this.
  • Promote it as much as you can.
  • Deliver.

Wrapping it up

Making money online is tough. And most of the information out there is either outdated or untrue.

But if you choose one of the ways to make money online in the post above, there's a great chance you will.

So go and get started. I'm here if you need help with anything.

Oh, and hey...don't forget to share this with your friends so they won't have to go through the "bad content" thing.
